Its Memorial Day weekend. A weekend for sales, for barbecues, and family time? This weekend, specifically, the last Monday in May is set aside as day of observance to honor those who died in the Military service.
I realize that we're in the midst of an unpopular war, and that the respect for military action in the world is not high. That being said, I think its important to remember that our Nation was established and has remained because of our fighting military men and women.
I don't think that God is that excited about war as a means of truth and justice in the world, but Jesus did speak that there would be 'wars and rumors of wars' in the last days. No matter where you fall on the military debate, either biblically or politically, there is no denying that we wouldn't be where we are at as a nation if it were not for those who died.
Today, I want to honor them. To remember them. To thank God for them. We live in the greatest nation in the world. Yes, we have our problems, but the umbrella of freedom that we live under provided by those before us enables me to worship God freely, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Jesus said, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends". What a great love those veterans has for us that they were willing to lay down their lives.
Remember them this weekend. Say a prayer of thanks to God for them. Thank Him for what they provided for us.
Freedom.
Bless you
matt
Never before in the history of the world has a nation been so powerful yet so benevolent. Throughout history people of weaker nations lived in utter terror of people from more powerful nations. It's been said "the best path toward a nations economic success is to lose a war with the United States. Why is this? Because we live in a nation of good, God fearing people and thus our soldiers are such as well. God bless all the fighting men and women of this, the greatest nation on Gods green earth!
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing this. It's frustrating to hear all these people talking about what they are going to go do this weekend and not even mentioning what this weekend is about. I'm not saying I expect everyone to go down to the Arlington National Cemetary and give thier thanks, but so many people don't even know what this day is about. The reason you get a 3 day weekend and can have a bbq or go camping or to the beach is because of the sacrifice the men and women that gave thier lives for this country and our freedom made. Take a moment this weekend and honor them... -Ryan
